Viking chickens are a breed of chicken from Iceland. These chickens were brought to Iceland by the Vikings in the 9th century AD and were found on most farms for centuries. Indeed, one of their Icelandic names -- Íslenska landnámshænan -- means "Icelandic hen of the settlers." With the advent of the commercial type chickens, by the 1950s the Icelandic breed was nearly extinct. All the birds now existing (less than 3,000) are descended from a very small group of fowl saved in the 1970s.

and her grandmother (who resides in Iceland) is named "Rauðhetta"
which translates to Red Riding Hood :)

Ólafur moves to new home =[
Ólafur is going to a new home in Ladner. He will live
with our other rooster "Lola" and 83 laying hens...
his job will be to help Lola "serve and protect" the hens.

new addition built for the Icelandics!!!
We have to build an addition to the existing coop

is on the west side of the existing coop, My Great Grandparents

One egg has "pipped"! and 4 hours later it has HATCHED!!!

Tom and I candled the eggs tonight and saw that 6 of them were not developing properly, or at all... they needed to be disposed of!
