new addition built for the Icelandics!!!

We have to build an addition to the existing coop
to keep the Icelandics separate for breeding purposes...

my daughter Helen painted the sign...

we called the addition to the coop "The Westfjords" because it

is on the west side of the existing coop,  My Great Grandparents

emigrated from Ísafjörður, in the Westfjords, Iceland to Canada in 1893

3 weeks old in the brooder box

5 baby Icelandic Chickens!!

all five of them are in the brooder now...

2 more have hatched overnight and another one is on the way!!!

today is day 20

One egg has "pipped"! and 4 hours later it has HATCHED!!!
gorgeous little Viking chicken! if it's a boy, his name will be "Erik",
and if it's a girl, she will be called "Erika"!

reviewing the eggs

Tom and I candled the eggs tonight and saw that 6 of them were not developing properly, or at all... they needed to be disposed of!

14 left! keep your fingers crossed!!!
