Viking chickens are a breed of chicken from Iceland. These chickens were brought to Iceland by the Vikings in the 9th century AD and were found on most farms for centuries. Indeed, one of their Icelandic names -- Íslenska landnámshænan -- means "Icelandic hen of the settlers." With the advent of the commercial type chickens, by the 1950s the Icelandic breed was nearly extinct. All the birds now existing (less than 3,000) are descended from a very small group of fowl saved in the 1970s.
One egg has "pipped"! and 4 hours later it has HATCHED!!!
gorgeous little Viking chicken! if it's a boy, his name will be "Erik",
and if it's a girl, she will be called "Erika"!
I candled the eggs today...
Tom made a home-made candling device out of a galvanized flower pot.
He drilled a hole in the bottom, and I glued some felt on it...Obviously this isn't an egg... the eggs looked good, at least the majority do, there are a couple of "suspect" eggs...
set the incubator on Sophie's crate that is in my office (Sophie's bedroom)
